Travels with Kenzie - September Newsletter

Hello & Happy September!

August was a pretty exciting month around here. We got back from an amazing 10-day trip to Norway, and overall, it was fabulous.

We also somehow lucked out with the weather. Norway tends to get quite a bit of rain, but we had several beautiful, sunny days during our trip. I definitely wasn’t complaining!

I’m working hard on my Norway vlog now, and I’m hoping to start sharing a lot more from the trip in upcoming newsletters. There’s plenty to come because Norway gave me a lot to talk about.

In the meantime, I’m honestly pretty excited to be home and heading into fall. As much as I love vacation, there’s something so nice about having a good home to come back to.

And coming home from a summer trip feels a little easier when you’re returning to warm weather instead of stepping off the plane into freezing Wisconsin temperatures. I’ll take that win.

Now that I’m settled back in, I’m ready for fall, cooler evenings, and, most importantly, Packers football season. Go Pack Go! 🏈

Destination Spotlight: Richardson Lake Campground

Before Norway, we squeezed in a camping weekend with friends at Richardson Lake Campground in northern Wisconsin.

If you’re looking for a smaller, quieter campground instead of a huge campground packed with people, this one is worth checking out. It had that quaint, laid-back feel that makes a camping weekend actually feel relaxing.

I put together a short video showing you around the campground and sharing a little bit of our weekend there, so you can get a better idea of what it’s like before planning your own trip.

Travel Tip: Take Photos of Your Rental Car

Pro tip for your next road trip or fly-and-drive vacation: Before you leave the rental car lot, take a few minutes to photograph and video the car.

Walk around the entire vehicle and document any scratches, dents, windshield chips, wheel damage, or anything else you notice. I’d also take another round of photos and video when you return it.

I haven’t personally had to dispute rental car damage, thankfully, but I’ve heard of stories where having time-stamped photos helped travelers show that damage was already there.

It takes maybe two extra minutes, and those two minutes could save you a major headache later.

Where in the World is Kenzie Headed Next?

After a pretty big Norway adventure, our next getaway is much closer to home.

We have a weekend at the cabin in northern Wisconsin planned, and I’m hoping we can squeeze in a few final watersports on the lake before Wisconsin decides summer is officially over.

As for our next bigger vacation, nothing is booked yet. We’re currently brainstorming a few fall and winter trip ideas, which is always one of my favorite stages of travel planning.

If you have a fall or winter destination you absolutely love, hit reply and send it my way. I’m always looking for ideas!

Travel Product of the Month: Inflatable Pillow

This month’s travel find is not glamorous, but it has been surprisingly useful: an inflatable camping pillow.

When you’re camping, especially when packing space is limited, a full-size pillow takes up a ridiculous amount of room. This one collapses into a tiny carrying case, but once it’s inflated, it still gives you solid support for sleeping.

It’s become one of those little things I’m very happy to have in my camping gear.
